Shooting runs in her family, and octogenarian Chandro Tomar is an exceptional shooter. From Johri village near Baghpat district in Uttar Pradesh, she is one of the oldest sharpshooters in the world. The 87-year-old, who started shooting when she was 65, has won several medals in the shooting championships for veterans held in Ahmedabad, Asansol, Chennai, Delhi, Indore, etc. Clad in a full-sleeved collared shirt over a ghagra (long skirt), with head covered with a ghoonghat, the veteran villager is inspiring a new generation of shooters. Chandro Tomar trains over 100 girls across India, and has helped in opening shooting ranges in rural areas. Known as ‘Shooter Dadi’ and ‘Revolver Dadi’, Tomar’s success has encouraged people to take up shooting as a sporting profession.
