In India there is a police station in Uttar Pradesh in district Varanasi, where Baba Kal Bhairav houses on the officer’s chair. Officers sit on other chair they not sit their own chair.
In Bisweshwarganj Varanasi Kotwali police station in-charge Rajesh Singh said that the tradition has been handed down over the years. Any inspector came here by posting he is not sitting on his own chair. The Provost’s chair always houses the Bhairav Baba. There is a temple of Bhairav Baba in Varanasi.
They are the defenders of the city. That’s why they are called Kotwal of Kashi. Any police officer came here first they worship to the Bhairav Baba temple and after they start their work. It is believed that Bhairav Baba is the incharge of the hole city. No one can enter without permission of Kal Bhairav in the city.
A constable Suryanath Chandel said that here i am working in this police station from 18 years. I have not seen yet to sit any officer to this chair. However, nobody knows the beginning of this tradition. But this tradition is coming from the British time.
